Places to visit in Siem Reap

Angkor Wat foto Siem Reap is perhaps the city’s most famous tourist area for the architectural complex of Angkor Wat. Siem Reap can be reached by air, for example from Bangkok at low rates with low-cost carriers such as Air Asia or by land from Thailand (not recommended if you do not have many days left), keep in mind that there is a Visa pay at the airport of about 20 dollars.

Angkor Wat

Take a trishaw to go around the place fast. Another option would be to walk through the ruins. Another option would be to take the elephant but that costs more money. Or the lazy way would be to rent a bus. The food in Angkor wat is a lot more expensive than outside. When you visit Angkor wat its recommended to wear shorts and to put on mosquito repellant.

Pub street and Siem reap night market

Walk around and find a place to eat with barbecue. The beer “Chang beer” is nice especially if you like light beer. A great thing to try would be the cheap fish spa where the fish pedicure – be sure to stay in there till the fish all come to you. It’s a great experience. You can bargain for a cheaper t shirt in the night market of “Welcome to Angkor Wat”. It takes about 6 hours by bus to go from Siem reap to Phnom Penh.

Tonle Sap lake

The lake is not particularly clean but it has its charm and it’s a great way to see the daily village life. The best part is to take a boat out to see the fishing villages and to see the sunset.

Places to visit in Phnom Penh

Phnom Penh aerial foto Phnom Penh maybe is not a popular touristic destination as Siem Reap, is Cambodia capital city and has an international airport of course. It’s 11 km far from city centre that you can reach with taxi (about 7 USD fare).

Royal palace

Is the palace where you can find the well known “silver pagoda”. So called ’cause of its floor tiles made of silver.

S-21 aka The Tuol Sleng Genocide museum

A place that might leave you in shivers and it gaves a great understanding of what it is like to live under suppression and fear. It’s great to spend about 2 hours at this place.


Beaches in Cambodia

Sihanoukville is a tourism growing destination in Cambodia. The best way to get around is via a motorbike. There is a beach here where you can also go for swimming, snorkeling and scuba diving.


Food to eat in Cambodia

When considering cambodian food we should never forget that this country had a huge period of genocide. The usual food served on the menu in Cambodian restaurants is Fried Rice or noodles. However, these could be nice food to try out : Bai sach chrouk, Fish amok, khmer red curry, khmer noodles. Exotic fruits to try would be coconut, rambutan, mango, pineapple, mangosteen, dragon fruit.
